It does not get any better than this as Inter are ready to take on Milan in the most anticipated derby in the past several years. The entire stadium is sold out with a gate receipt of 4.8 million euros, the absolute record in all of Italian football. The Milan derby is one of those games that form doesn’t really matter. One team could be on a five-game winning streak while the other team is the opposite end and yet, everything is up for grabs. Individual quality does not matter, home or away does not matter, and again, form does not matter. What matters is who wants it the most. What matter is which team is ready to do whatever it takes, all the intangibles, to bring home all three points and especially pride for their colors.

“The key player for this game? It is the team,” said Luciano Spalletti in the pre-match press conference. “Everyone is chipping in with daily objectives that can add up to our main goal. The team is the only way to get the results. Our season will be measured by important matches such as this one and we must go out there to give beyond our all for these games. There are no excuses and I expect them to do it.”

In terms of the probable staring lineup, Handanovic remains untouchable in goal with Skriniar and Miranda in front of him. D’Ambrosio is on the right side while it seems that Nagatomo will probably have an edge to start over Dalbert, given experience in big matches like this one. In front of the defense, the Gazzetta dello Sport believes that Luciano Spalletti will go with Gagliardini, who had a very positive performance with Italy, and Borja Valero.

The trequartista position has been discussed at length over the past two weeks. After Brozovic’s injury, there are options to replace the Croatian but it is up to the coach to pick out what he thinks best. At least, it seems that Joao Mario is the favorite to receive the nod against Milan but the pink newspaper is prediction Vecino in that role, one that he has not played this season. Perisic and Candreva are your wingers supporting lone striker Mauro Icardi.

Prediction: Inter 2-1 Milan
