Milito: "Icardi is just deadly in the box. Scudetto? Juve and Napoli remain favorites but Inter can dream again"
Speaking to the Gazzetta dello Sport, legendary Inter forward Diego Milito discusses Mauro Icardi and his performance against Milan last Sunday night.
What kind of forward is Mauro Icardi?
“He is just deadly in the penalty area, showing his great intelligence in where he needs to be. He sees the game first and foremost and also has a fantastic sense to score goals. Defenders often fail to understand or even neutralize the movement of Mauro.”
Zanetti said that Icardi is similar to Crespo. What do you think?
“It is very difficult to compare as every forward has something different, something unique. But yes, I do agree with Zanetti: Icardi has a lot of Crespo in him, especially in terms of movement in the area. Like Hernan, Mauro can appear out of thin air, attacking the goal with ferocity and plus, he is very good with his head as well. We are talking about a goalscoring specialist here.”
He is like you now. Scoring a hattrick in a derby, how does it feel?
“One of the best emotions that I had ever felt as a footballer. The derby was always the game that I loved and wanted to play in. Those nights require you to go beyond for limits. Bravo Icardi, it is not easy to put a stamp like this in a derby.”
Scudetto race… who is in front?
“Juve remain the favorite but this will be harder year for them because Napoli have reached a very high level as a team. They are a great squad, play fantastically and with a great coach.”
“I see a solid team which still has a lot to express of its real potential. Inter will continue to grow and doing so by a good margin. They are training well and have big time players. But patience is needed, this new area is only just at the beginning and some difficulties that they have faced so far must be taken into account. That being said, there are conditions for the fans to dream again.”
