Serie A matchday 9: Napoli vs. Inter - If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best
If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best and so far after eight matches, Napoli have been by far the best team in Serie A this season. The team of Sarri has not only gotten a perfect record with eight wins out of eight for 24 points but their play has also been spot on and very impressive as well. On Tuesday night, they came to the Etihad Stadium of Manchester City and managed to be on par (were actually better in the last 30 or so minutes) with the current Premier League leaders. That is how impressive Napoli are.
So who should Inter’s mindset be facing this momentous challenge? Napoli are league leaders and must be respected. However, if Inter respect them a little bit too much, the boys of Luciano Spalletti will be troubled the entire game and I would not be surprised if the result ends up be 3-0 for Napoli. Do not get me wrong, I’m not asking Inter to go all out attack in their own house, that would be foolish as well. But Inter must play their style of football, doing what they have done so far this season, attack together, defense as a unit, looking to put Napoli in trouble as much as possible.
“Napoli are strong but we know that we cannot let them dictate play with their quality,” Spalletti said in the press conference before the game.
“We do have the ability to create problems for them as well. We must try to trouble them and aim to win in their own backyard. Anything is possible here at Inter because there are no regrets or limitations. The entire squad is of the highest quality and we can compete against any team.”
The belief that Inter “can compete against any team” is essential for a positive result here. We are Inter. We are second place in the league. We have yet to be beaten. We must believe.
According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Luciano Spalletti is expected to field the same starting lineup against Milan. Icardi with Perisic, Candreva and Borja Valero (despite the availability of Joao Mario, the Spanish is likely to start) as his main support. Gagliaridni and Vecino are your midfielders given the injury of Brozovic. The back four remain the same with Nagatomo, Miranda, Skriniar and D’Ambrosio in front of Handanovic.
Prediction: Napoli 3-2 Inter
