Ausilio: "It is not right to lie to the fans so I must be honest: we cannot spend 30-40 million in January"
Piero Ausilio recently did an interview with Tuttosport. In the first part of the conversation, the Inter technical director talked mainly about the work done so far by Luciano Spalletti and how he is a very detail oriented person. In this second part of the interview, Ausilio discusses the future transfer market of Inter, heading towards January.
How is working with Sabatini? How is it going?
“Unlike what many think, we are friends and have respected each other for a long time. We work together at ease every day. We have found a balance and the nice thing is that we have similar view in football: out of the 10 players that I like, he likes nine of them and vice versa. When I named Dalbert and Skriniar, he told me to get them as soon as possible. I think that we are completing each other and his experience enriches me. Last summer, I saw him more than my wife… to the point that I have started to have two-three cigarettes after dinner…”
When it comes to evaluating Ramires, it is an opportunity to strengthen Inter but at the same time weaken Jiangsu.
“Ramires is a quality player and no one can dispute that. However, it is up to the owner not the director of Inter to evaluate what is best for the goals of their clubs. We already have five very strong midfielders here at Inter.”
Under what condition can Vidal become an opportunity?
“I want to be clear because it is not right to deceive the fans. In January, we cannot do incoming transfers that are not supported by the outgoing ones: we have already presented a picture of our accounts to UEFA for the 2017-2018 season and if we were to change something, we need to change all the plans. We cannot go on the market and spend 30-40 million: this is true for everyone, not just for Vidal.”
On Sunday, there will be Torino, will be a sort of a derby…
“It is true. Mihajovic is a friend who played and coached here. On that team, there are many former Inter players like Obi, Burdisso, Ansaldi and Ljajic. Torino are a great team with interesting youngsters with a strong midfield and quality attack. Matches against them have always been difficult historically.”
Is Cairo (Chairman of Torino) really a tough bone to crack?
“He is a no non-sense person. We were already closed for Ansaldi but were discussing bonuses for months because it doesn’t matter if it is 50 euros or 50 thousand, the president was determined not to give up anything. Even when we signed D’Ambrosio who was six months away from being a free agent, to Cairo, it was like the player still had a five-year contract.”
Excuse us Piero, can we say the word Scudetto?
“No… It is banned.”
