Ausilio: "Spalletti, a very detail oriented person. He pays great attention from player nutrition to the grass on the field"
Inter sporting director, Piero Ausilio, speaks to Tuttosport in a very long interview. Here is the first part of the discussion.
Ausilio, tell us about Spalletti.
“Spalletti seems to have been here for many years. He is integrated perfectly not only with the world of Inter but also with the city as well. He is finding himself very well here and is comfortable. Spalletti has already made important contribution to improve the daily aspects here at Appiano. He is very attentive to the very details. He is like a land expert, a connoisseur. He knows how to cultivate it and is very careful about how the grass must be cut and the fields must be marked a certain way before training. He also insisted on the aspect of nutrition so we included in the staff a dietitian who will work with the chefs and medical staff on the daily basis.”
To Spalletti, four months was enough to give the team an identity.
“History speaks for himself. Spalletti has always done well by mostly using his own playing schemes. He is giving a precise mentality to the players. He wants to dominate the opponents but does not lose sight of organization, the game’s principles and the quality of opponents because you cannot have the same attitude playing against Roma and Napoli. Luciano always thinks about how the outcomes can be achieved in different ways. He already has the players on his side with his beliefs. They all run, cover and work for others.”
Could you say that Spalletti is one of the last “hard head” left in our football?
“Spalletti is the commander of his troops. Remember what happened in Brunico with a fan and Ranocchia? He immediately stepped in and sent a message to all: ‘these are my players and I will protect them.’ You will not find an interview where he does not have his players’ back. To him, they are the best in the world so much so that he does not want to let anyone go in January.”
Is there anything similar to Mourinho?
“I find similarities in the desire to raise their voices to communicate to everyone: management, fans and players. This allows all to keep their level of attention at the highest. The goal is to take one day at a time. You look towards the day after, at most the next game, never too far ahead.”
Will you start talking about a renewal in January?
“With Spalletti, we agreed for two years, no clauses. We are well together and fine like this. The last of the problems is to understand how long it is necessary to continue. We consider Spalletti like a real treasure, fundamental to the present and the future project of Inter.”
