Serie A matchday 15: Inter vs. Chievo - Focus on what is ahead, not what comes after
Two things that I can personally guarantee to happen in this game. The first one is that we can expect a great crowd (55-60 thousand fans) once again as this has been the norm for the entire season. The second guarantee is that Inter will struggle. This is one of those game that we will have to grind our butts off for all three points. It will not be a cakewalk because Chievo are a tough opponent (maybe I’m too overestimate them but…) and we will not have two of our regular starters.
I am not worried too much about Brozovic, although he has had incredibly stupid episodes in the past, but I am terrified of the idea of having Ranocchia in the middle of our defense. Maybe Spalletti’s confidence in him will transform into a solid performance on the field but it has been so long since last time that he played, let alone started one.
I have not even touched on Vecino. Is he going to play or be rested? Who is going to be in his place if he is a no go? Joao Mario and Eder are the most likely candidates for this one spot.
“Vecino is fit and he can play. Howerver, we’re a well-equipped team and we can always pick eleven starters, there are zero excuses for those who wear this shirt. Chievo know how to get what they want and even though that it is impossible to win every match, we want to train for the impossible,” said Spalletti in the pre-match press conference.
These players are professionals. They train everyday to do this job and should be ready at any moment to be called upon, case in point Ranocchia who, again, has not started in awhile. Anyway, we potentially will have three new players in the lineup, that cannot be a positive thing. It will surely disrupt the flow of our team. I do hope that I am wrong and that it will be an easy match but chances are, it won’t be. In addition, the guys need to focus on what is ahead of them and that is Chievo, not what comes after it. Juventus are a huge game but Inter must maintain the right mindset that they have had for the entire season: one game at a time.
According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, the starting lineup is as follows: only one change in the defense and that is Ranocchia in for the suspended Miranda. Santon and D’Ambrosio are on the wings and Skriniar alongside the Italian defender. In the midfield, the Milan newspaper believes that Vecino will make it in this game and Inter will not save him for the game against Juventus. So Vecino-Borja Valero is your duo in the midfield, in front of the defense, with Brozovic as trequartista supporting Icardi. Perisic and Candreva are the untouchables on the wings.
Prediction: Inter 2-1 Chievo
