Serie A matchday 19: Inter vs. Lazio - The Champions League is on the line
I don’t really see how we can get a positive result in this game. We are out of form. They are in great form. We have lost all the momentum gathered from that undefeated start, they are still on a roll. Everything seems to be not in our favor in this match tomorrow. We are coming off a 120-minute game versus Milan and so physically and mentality, we are burned whereas Lazio have been having a nice rest to face their number one rival for the 4th Champions League spot (Napoli, Juve are the sure two, Roma will finish 3rd). Let’s not forget that Lazio have one game in hand so the worst case scenario for Inter could be two points behind the club of Lotito.
But anyway, enough doom and gloom, both sides still have to take the field on Saturday. The most important thing for the players to realize that our undefeated start was not a fluke. It was not a coincidence that we managed to get three positive results away at Roma, Napoli and Juventus. It was not a coincidence that at one time, Inter had the best defense in the league. It is not a coincidence that Icardi remains a feared central forward in the Italian Serie A with 17 goals. There are many positives that Inter can learn from and it must start now, against our main rival for the Champions League.
“This team has done exceptional things - Spalletti said. And because of this, we can find a solution by ourselves. It’s in such a moment that you are able to see your individuals qualities. We need to have in mind who we are and where we have come from. We have done good work on this journey and the figures support what we’re saying. We need to set obvious examples. We need to succumb to what we are: a strong team.”
In terms of the lineup against Lazio, it seems that Spalletti will go back to his previous starting 11 that he used for 5-6 consecutive matches… well… almost. With Miranda and D’Ambrosio out of action and will be for a couple of weeks, Ranocchia and Cancelo are ready to take their places. Nagatomo will play on the left with Skriniar completing the defense of four. Vecino and Gagliardini are the midfielders playing in front of the defense with Borja Valero as trequartista. The attacking trident remains the same with Perisic, Icardi and Candreva.
P.S. I am currently on vacation and will return today, during the game. I will be posting articles on the regular basis just after the new year.
