Dalbert's former coach: "He is a left-footed Dani Alvez, has ability to go very far"
Ricardo Cheu, 36 years old, was the coach of Dalbert Henrique when the player was at Academico de Viseu FC. Speaking to Bancada, Cheu looks back at the first time he laid an eye on the left back.
“I saw him play some matches when I was a scout. Then from there, I started to have interest in Dalbert. He was a very intriguing player. I perfectly remember the first time I got to talk to him, I asked him that if he was willing to learn and if he wanted something more for his career. He always showed so much humility and always recognized that he had a lot of aspects to improve. I made a bet with him that one day he’ll be at Real Madrid. The truth is that he is not that far away, I feel he has the ability to go very far.
“Dalbert is a great team player. For me, he is a left-footed Dani Alves, a player who can sprint into the box and also can score, not just providing assist. I have never worked with Dani Alves but for me, Dalbert is more advanced in the air, because he is taller and has a great ability to elevate. I talked to him at the end of the league, wondering if he had a chance to go to a big club since there was talk of Inter and PSG. He told me at the time, there was nothing concrete but there was possibility. I would be very happy for him if this comes to reality. The next step for him would be the Brazilian national team.”
