Pellegri very close to join Inter in the summer. Nerazzurri remain in race but competition is now more fierce
He was close, very close. Pietro Pellegri was just inches away from joining Inter in the summer in an operation that could worth up to 60 million euros (Salcedo included). However, in the end, negotiations did not end up on a positive note.
According to Manuele Baiocchini, the deal collapsed for two reasons: “Inter wanted to include Ranocchia in the deal to lower the price. They wanted another central defender that can be a better fit than the Italian defender for Spalletti.
“The second reason is more of a technical nature. Inter would offer Pellegri, a minor, a maximum contract of three years. The Nerazzurri would then leave him on loan at Genoa for two seasons and thus, one the loan spell ends, Pietro Pellegri would join Inter with only one year left in his contract: not ideal solution for someone that Inter would spend millions for.
“Inter remain in race for the 16 year-old but competition is becoming more and more aggressive. Juventus are maintaining contact with Giuseppe Riso, the player’s agent and there is also Milan as well. The Rossoneri tried to convince the player and agent late August but without success. It would be too expensive for Milan who already spent 230 million euros on other players in last transfer window.”
