Serie A matchday 7: Benevento vs. Inter - Anything but a win is unacceptable

I always believe that the first game before or after international break is very unpredictable and the game against Benevento today falls into that category. There are three factors that I think will cause the players to overlook today’s game: international break coming up, Milan derby after that and Benevento are by far the worst team in the league. The Stregoni (Wizards) still have not gotten a single point this season with the record of six losses, one goal scored and 16 allowed. So not only that they are losing, they are doing so with big margins.

Despite being the bottom feeder currently in Serie A, the game is expected to be difficult, all the away games are in my opinion. The players are motivated to get first point in Serie A, the fans are pissed off and it is the "back against the wall" situation for them. That plus the fact that Inter’s recent performances against Crotone, Bologna and Genoa have not been convincing. Speaking at the press conference before the game, Luciano Spalletti confirms that yes, Inter are getting results but in terms of play and execution, there is something lacking. “We must be demanding of ourselves because we are still not who we want to be. We take too many touches and we are still a bit lazy in our thinking. At a far, we have done quite well but we need to show something more in our speed of execution,” he said.

On the topic of Mauro Icardi, who has not scored in an open play in a couple of matches, Spalletti does not “see a player who has done badly or having a tough time. As a whole, we are looking for consistency and have had dips in form but this is just part of growing process. I have asked Icardi to drop further back, he is focused on doing this and I know he will make the best out of it.”

In terms of probable starting lineup for the Nerazzurri, the Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Brozovic will start in this match in place of Joao Mario. The attacking options remain the same with Icardi, Perisic and Candreva while Valero, Gagliardini are your midfielders. No changes in the defense and of course in the goalkeeping position with Dalbert, Miranda, Skriniar, D’Ambrosio and Handanovic between the posts.

Prediction: Benevento 0-2 Inter
