Matias Vecino, the temporary bandage to cover Nainggolan wound
“We do not depend on just one player, not even if that player is Nainggolan.”
That was Luciano Spalletti in the press conference yesterday talking about missing the Belgian midfielder for at least 2-3 more games. That being said, finding a replacement is anything but trivial. Against Milan and Barcelona, the Inter coach decided to go with the most straight forward solution: Borja Valero. However, it is necessary for Spalletti to find another solution because the Spanish would struggle playing in the third game in just one week. He already struggled against Barcelona last Wednesday.
So what is the solution? According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, “Vecino is the main candidate for the trequartista role for the game against the team of Inzaghi. At the Olimpico last season, he almost became immortal with the goal that changed Inter’s European future. The Uruguayan should be a good choice for a wide variety of reasons: for the many kilometers that he is going to cover, for the air battle against Milinković-Savić, for the solidity that he is going to guarantee in the defensive end, against this Lazio team which should have numerical advantage in the midfield.”
