B/R - Skriniar could be the first defender to worth over 100 million euros
Has the transfer market gone mad? Yes. After the payment of Neymar’s release clause, prices have skyrocketed and not just for offensive players. Liverpool paid 79 million euros for Virgil Van Dijk, a central defender. When and who will be the first defender to be paid over the 100 million mark?
Bleacher Report has two candidates in mind: “The big established names such as Godin, Chiellini, Hummels and Sergio Ramos are all over 30 years old so signing them for that figure is out of question. Varane and Umtiti? They could easily be candidates for being 100-million defenders but they already are at top clubs such as Barcelona and Real Madrid. So who could be the real candidates, in clubs that are willing to sell?
“First is Milan Skriniar. There are not many central defenders as complete as Skriniar. His growth has been exponential because 14 months ago, nobody knew who this defender was, the one that Inter bought for 20 million euros. His 2017-2018 season was incredible with him playing every single minute in Serie A. With the Champions League, it is easy to think that his price can go up to 100 million.”
The other candidate is Napoli defender Koulibaly. “Outsider” are Rugani, Jose Gimenez and De Ligt.
