Inter evaluating two options to replace 34 year-old Handanovic
After a slow start of the season, Samir Handanovic has returned to play on a very high level. However, given the fact that he is already 34 years old, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter will be forced to look for a replacement very soon here, perhaps as early as January.
“The development of the Slovenian this season will direct the future choices of Inter and there are two routes that the club must choose. The Nerazzurri must first decide wether to chase a goalkeeper who is ready immediately to take over the post of Handanovic and in this sense, the club of Suning is very attentive to the evolution of Alphonse Areola, 25, who is suffering at PSG due to the presence of Buffon. In recent days, the French media is reporting that Areola is feeling uneasy at the club and his contract situation is not helping. Talks have been ongoing for weeks now but they have not led to white smoke. Inter are monitoring this situation, ready to intervene in the event of a total collapse in the relationship of both sides. Even though that there is not a lot of competition, a ‘normal’ wage will not be enough for PSG to convince Areola.
“The other profile is Alessio Cragno, currently being evaluated by Piero Ausilio. The 24 year-old Italian is doing very well with Cagliari but he would be a backup to Samir Handanovic for another season before becoming a starter. Evaluation for Cragno is not low as last summer Giulini refused proposals from Napoli. Anything less than €20M should have a very difficult time to open negotiation with the Rossoblu.”
