Marotta: "Mourinho? We need to think about Inter of present, not of the past"
“It is a pleasant and exciting feeling to arrive in a new club.”
That was Giuseppe Marotta speaking to the journalists at the Inter Christmas dinner.
“Inter are an important club, one that is looking to win again. I try to bring passion and commitment.”
There is the situation of Mauro Icardi.
“Ausilio made a strong and correct stance in the name of this club. There are places to speak about these things. Icardi is an important player who deserves financial recognition. They, in their own right, did not accept our offer of months ago but I am sure we will reach a positive conclusion.”
What is still missing at Inter to be at Juve’s level?
“Time. It will take Inter one to two years to get back to the great levels. This year, we are back playing in the Champions League which means growth for the club and the players.”
Will you continue with Spalletti next year regardless of result?
“This is a question that cannot be answered. I can underline that Spalletti is an experienced coach who is doing well. The elimination of the Champions League does not mean anything, there is half a season remaining for us to assess Inter’s performances. There is optimism to go ahead with him since we have just signed a three-year deal.”
Do you like Trincao?
“Our management will follow the guidelines dictated by ownership which is to win. This turns into concrete operations that will lead to acquiring some players. Our squad can be improved in some parts but overall, it is competitive. I am sure that Ausilio has Trincao on his list. He is a strong player. If allowed, we will enter into negotiation.”
Mourinho and a possible return, what do you think?
“At the moment we need to think about Inter of the present, not the past: we are sorry for his sacking.”
Any comment to respond to Juventus directors?
“I do not do controversy. We have already discussed too much and there are other more important situations to be evaluated.”
