Thiago Motta recalls 2010: "All 11 players knew how to defend at Inter, Mou gave us right personality"
On the eve of the highly anticipated game between Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain, Thiago Motta gave a long interview to France Football, talking about the past where he won the treble at Inter.
“You need to match your style of play to our identity. When I played at Inter and went to play Barcelona in the semifinals in 2010, the way we played was all 11 players to stay on our half of the field, trying to look for a chance to counter. This is not how PSG play. It does not mean that you have to start attacking like crazy but we need to find the right balance. To qualify, we have to be ourselves and that’s all.
“At Inter, the defense was formed by 11 players. Samuel and Lucio were excellent defenders but even Eto’o and Milito knew how to defend. It was mandatory because it was our football idea at Inter. This is the important thing, staying true to your identity. AT PSG, we are used to play on the offense. Mourinho had an important role, he was fundamental. He had such special personality. There were some players who did not have this personality but then he passed it on to us, everyone worked on his ideas.”
