Guarin: "Inter are my family and I would return in a heartbeat, this is my biggest desire"
“Inter are my family, bring me back home. Money is not a problem, just give me a fifth of my current wage (which is 10 million euros). Last year, I mentioned about it with Ausilio but the economic conditions prevented it from happening.”
That was former Inter player, Fredy Guarin, talking about his massive desire to return to the Nerazzurri.
“I do like China and it is going well. I have two more years of my contract. We qualified for the Asian Champions League and we won the Chinese Cup. I miss Italy and Inter but I do not regret this choice. I am disappointed with the latest results just like all the Inter fans. But I remain confident for the Champions League, this may be the year of change. The team is strong and deserves a return to Europe. My Inter had negative results and they were a consequence of many changes. Stability within the club is fundamental. We wondered who would be there and to what capacity but now Suning is a certainty.
“Thohir? I would like to thank him because he made me feel important in every way by treating me like a star of this team. He was the one to propose a new contract after negotiation collapsed with Juventus. The negotiation that Mazzarri wanted to happen as he was pushing me to exchange with Vucinic. Juventus wanted me already when I arrived in Italy but I made my decision. Moratti is like a father figure to me, he was fundamental, together with Zanetti and Cordoba, for my stay. But I cannot forget the fans in Curva and their display of affection to convince the club to keep me. I could have gone to the best team in Serie A, that was also the year of the Champions League final in Berlin but it doesn’t matter, I am happy for how things have gone.”
On the farewell two years ago.
“That was for Financial Fair Play. Mangement was clear to me: ‘You and Icardi were the only ones with an important economic value, we need money.’ Nobody forced me, of course, but my transfer was important for the books. It was the only positive aspect of my departure. Mancini tried to keep me and he is a winner, a great coach and also a dear friend of mine.”
On the will to return.
“I would do it immediately, it is my greatest desire. Money does not interest me. I would accept to earn much less. We talked about it already last summer when there was De Boer and a lot of confusion but I wanted to come back at all costs. But the economic situation of that moment prevented it from happening.”
At the end of the interview, Guarin once again displays his great desire to return to Inter: “I am here, and I know the road for Appiano perfectly.”
