Maicon: "I will always tell a child to support Inter"
“Inter defense and the whole mechanism are working very well, otherwise they would not be able to stop a team like Napoli twice. Skriniar is very good.”
That was Maicon in an exclusive interview with the Gazzetta dello Sport.
You were trained by Spalletti when you were in Rome. What memories do you have about him?
“Very positive even if we only worked together for a short time. I have pleasant memory of him who is a very good coach, one that is very detail-oriented in his daily work. Inter should stay calm and after a positive 0-0 against Napoli, let’s keep working.”
The season started well but this mechanism has gotten stuck. How can they get out of it?
“By staying united, together as a group. Not necessarily off the field but the important thing is that when you fight, you do it in a compact way for the goal of the team.”
And with this spirit, Inter will return to the Champions League?
“I think they have to think about one game at a time, without thinking about the final goal. Just one step at a time. Serie A is very difficult even when you face the bottom teams. The games of this year have proven this.”
Among the many coaches that you had, there were two that had the most impact in your career: Roberto Mancini and Jose Mourinho.
“Mancini rebuilt Inter, technically and mentally. He completely redid everything. Mourinho gave the finishing touch, he put the icing on the cake if you will. He was the best that I ever worked with. To be trained by Mourinho, you need very strong mentality, otherwise you cannot play with him and for him. He said what to do and everything was well from the start.”
You were one of the heroes in that treble season. How was that Inter team?
“Everything was perfect: you can tell just by looking at each other in the eyes. Words were not going to take us that far, only action and facts.”
Inter are 110 years old: how would you explain this club to a child?
“I would say that Inter are a special family. President Moratti is unique and second to none. I would always tell a child to support Inter.”
