Zanetti: "I will carry Inter in my heart until the last day of my life"
“I fell in love with Inter on the very first day because I understood the human side of this organization, which not everyone has.”
That was Javier Zanetti talking to Inter TV celebrating his career at the Nerazzurri, from when he arrived to the conquest of the Champions League and now he is in the Inter Hall of Fame.
“The UEFA Cup victory was an unforgettable evening. My father was in the stands together with my wife Paula. It was my first European trophy and it was a magical night, especially in a stadium like that. I was lucky to score an important goal, decisive for the victory. It will stay with me forever because it was my first one.
“The Champions League final? Great emotion and also tension playing in a final that had not happened in such a long time and for many of us, that was our final chance. Personally, being 37 years old at that time, I knew that something like that may not happen again. There was such pride and honor wearing the armband in such important match. I remember when we took the field to warm-up and saw our curva full of our supporters. I think it gave us the sense of responsibility and desire to say that ‘this is ours and we cannot make our fans unhappy.’ When I lifted the trophy, the expression on my face spoke for my: it showed all of my happiness for winning a title that will remain in the history of all of us.”
On his entry into the Inter Hall of Fame.
“Entering into the Inter Hall of Fame, to me, has great significance and it is a great emotion. Being with Giacinto Facchetti who, from the very first day that he waited for me at my press presentation, made it clear what it is meant to defend the Inter shirt. And also with ‘Uncle’ Bergomi who gave me the captain armband. Being Interisti means honor, pride for the shirt and I can say that I feel in love with Inter not after a win, but after suffeYouring. This is a unique value to me. It is a fantastic love story that will never end because I will bring Inter in my heart until the last day of my life.”
