Pandev: "Treble in 2010 was gift for Moratti and the fans"
He was Premium Sport guest for an evening of Champions League football. Goran Pandev looks back at the victory of Inter against Bayern Munich, the one that the Macedonian scored a goal just before the end of the game.
“That evening, we played a great game. In the first leg, we lost at home but in Germany, we immediately scored the first goal but found ourselves down 2-1. I remember Ranocchia saved a clear goal, with the ball hitting the post. Then in the second half, we were able to equalize and then my goal came, the icing on the cake. Nobody believed that we would move on because Bayern were considered very strong.”
On the treble year. “That year, we really deserved to win everything. We faced very strong teams like Chelsea and Barcelona and we reached the final against Bayern Munich. Mourinho and Eto’o said that we would win these games and we did. We went back to Milan, to the San Siro full of fans, a beautiful atmosphere. We were very sorry that Mourinho left, but we already knew that beforehand. But at the time, we had only in mind the win to make our fans happy and the president Massimo Moratti who was always close to us. It was a nice present for all. Winning the Champions League remains for the rest of my life. Winning the Champions League is a dream for every player. Being able to do it with this shirt after many years and to make the fans really happy, especially Moratti, was something very special.”
