Ausilio: "Without Champions League, this is still a positive season. Would be an excellent one with it..."
In a long interview with Premium Sport, Inter sporting director, Piero Ausilio, talks about the team and the upcoming transfer market.
Lazio-Inter. “With Lazio, it will be like a final if we do our duty in the previous game against Sassuolo. May 20th is still far away and we have to do one game at a time and we did that very well in Udine. Now we think ahead towards Sassuolo. If things go as what we want then we will focus on the last game.”
Objective. “For us, the objectives are clear. Let’s also not forget that Spalletti’s technical project only started in July. We added some new players and we restarted with the group that was similar to that of the last few years. Immediately, we started to get results and were first in the standings in November. We knew that the ultimate goal was to return to the Champions League. This has been a season of highs and some lows but I am convinced that this Inter are better than the one in October and November, when we were in the top spots. Inter are now more mature and have grown a lot over the past few months. Some other projects only started a few years ago, ours only for a year and we are convinced that it will always be better.”
Spalletti, future and market. “For us, growth is important. The team is better than in the past and compared to a few months ago. We can still get better, in fact, we have already done something for next season and we will find ourselves prepared. We will do everything to be competitive in the league and in the Champions League if we quality. If we cannot finish fourth then we will do everything to be competitive again, for the fans.”
Champions League. “Are our future plans depending on the Champions League? It brings something extra in terms of economic point of view but it would not change anything from technical aspect. Suning’s ambitions remain the same. It is normal that the Champions League can bring us a few million euros. This season remains positive no matter what, Champions League or not. It can be an excellent reason if there is Champions League next season. Regardless, this is a great starting point for next years.”
Spalletti’s renewal. “At the moment, it is more media talk than anything else. We are very happy with his work, there are still two games left and a goal remains to be achieved. Our next goal is a strong player, worthy of a big club, young. What matters the most is mentality and professionalism.”
