Zhang Jindong: "2018 will be key for Suning Sports"
2018 will be a key year for Suning and especially for Suning Sports. Assuring us is the boss of the company in Nanjing, Zhang Jindong, who explains the importance of sports industry in an interview with the Chinese press.
“This year will be fundamental for our sports industry. The total number of users of our PPTV services has reached 3.7 billion. Now, we must find new commercial resources as soon as possible. For Suning, sports is an excellent way to attract traffic. If there are valuable opportunities for our business, Suning will surely take advantage. Our focus for the moment is on football but we also want to enter other sports in mass in the future. Sport has many positive factors: energy, enthusiasm, loyalty and hard work. All of this have a strong bond with the social image that our brand wants to build. Our audience has great energy, can help us rejuvenate the brand.”
The intension, as we can already see, is to make Suning Sports an autonomous entity from the parent company, to facilitate its expansion that in recent years has been exponential. In this regard, Zhang is studying any integration between sports and retail sector, as evidenced by the launch of Suning Flagship Commercial Mao last year.
“Sport retail is an important link in the industry chain: it combines brands, clubs, fans and consumers. Suning Sports will maintain constant connections with the retail sector. Products sold within Suning stores are not only conventional sports but also include equipment and tickets for events. Regardless of future expansions of our industrial system, retail will always be in first position and the rest will remain behind. But combining it all, the strength of resources doubles, and with it, the competitiveness of the retail sector. Suning will persist for a long time in focusing on the strategy of concentric and multi-level retail development.”
