Sabatini: "Roma can no longer control Nainggolan but Spalletti can, he is a genius at that"
In a long interview with the Corriere dello Sport, Walter Sabatini talks about his new adventure with Sampdoria but of course, the former Suning technical director also has some time to comment on the past experience at Inter.
“What do I want to bring with me to this new adventure? The fans. Inter fans are extraordinary. 60 thousand were at the stadium to see SPAL in a midday match. Next year, there will be even more fans. My experience at Inter did not work because I made a wrong choice. I was thinking of building an international network, it was not possible due to government policy on football and too many restrictions. The Chinese were no longer listening to me.”
As a former Romanista, your thought on Nainggolan to Inter?
“There are two reasons to explain this sale: 38 million coming in before June 30th, of which 14 going back for Santon and Zaniolo. The second is that Roma were scared as they can no longer control Nainggolan, they cannot bear his excesses. Spalletti controls him very well.”
What is Spalletti’s method?
“He made Nainggolan sleep with him in Trigoria (Roma training ground). Spalletti used to said: ‘Radja, tonight we will sleep here, you and me.’ He really is a genius at this kind of thing.”
