LOCKED AND LOADED - After two months, Icardi ready to wear black and blue colors again (versus Sion)
INTER-ICARDI: LET'S START ONCE AGAIN
Strong desire from Mauro: here is the Inter captain.
The Argentinian is in black and blue colors again after two months: against Sion, he can have a piece of the game. Renewal is being prepared.
Two months without the Inter number 9 shirt on his shoulders, a week with personalized work to get back fitness as soon as possible, a couple of games in training and now the real new beginning. Mauro Icardi takes Inter back in his hand and rewinds the tape. On May 20th at the Olimpico, he booked his first ticket to the Champions League after beating Lazio coming from behind thanks to his penalty (100th goal in Serie A with Inter). Today in Sion, Switzerland, he will be once again in the center of Spalletti’s attack: Lautaro Martinez will start again but Icardi is going to have a piece of the game, maybe for an entire half, first taste of a season that will be very important for him and for the team. These past two months have been hectic for the Inter captain: vacation with Wanda and with their children, the renewal “issue,” the World Cup that he only saw on TV, the days of his release clause, the hunger to go back to training, the reassurances of the coach and management and the messages of loyalty to Inter.
From Rome to Sion - Mauro spent the final part of spring and the start of summer on the front page. For Spalletti, he has never been in question (“Next year, he will score even more goals,” he said at the end of may). For Wanda, he deserved a renewal immediately after the season ended (“Mauro either renews or leaves, but my priority is to stay”). For the club, he was and will continue to be the captain. The next step will be a new contract: after 15 days to trigger Icardi’s release clause, both sides will sit down for the new signature. It will not be this week because Ausilio and Gardini are going to China for a meeting with owner Zhang. The fundamental points of renewal are fixed: until 2023 with a salary between 5-6 million a year plus bonuses that can give him even more money. Meanwhile, Mauro is back in motion, locked and loaded and ready to go.
