De Vrij: "Inter are ambitious. Back three or four? Makes no difference to me"
In an interview with the Gazzetta dello Sport, Stefan De Vrij discusses a wide variety of topic starting with his preference of formation.
Stefan, what formation do you prefer to play with?
“With Lazio last season, I played in a back three but before that, it was always in a four-man defense. With the Netherlands, it was four at first and now it is three behind. So far, I have not found it difficult to adapt. The most important thing, is to know how to work individually on the line of defenders: if those things are lear then nothing changes for me.”
So Inter and Spalletti, how is it going?
“Here at Inter, the players work very hard. Teammates and fans welcomed me very well. We have faced four teams so far and all games were played differently. This is how we prepare for the season. We are doing well but of course, things can still improve.”
Is your objective the Scudetto?
“We will see game after game where we can end up. We want to close the gap with other teams that are in the hunt for the Scudetto such as Juventus, Napoli, Roma. This is the objective of an ambitious team. We have to work hard and try to get better.”
Juventus have Ronaldo…
“Italian football will have its benefits and Serie A now will be more interesting to the foreign audience. Are they unbeatable? Let’s wait and see. I am happy to be at Inter and I think I have taken a step forward in my career.”
And then the debut in Champions League.
“I cannot wait. It is nice to compare yourself to the best teams in Europe. Inter are a club with high ambition and must stay in the Champions League.”
Many big clubs wanted you, why did you choose Inter?
“Because I felt the trust from them right away. They presented me an ambitious project and that is exactly how I am. The choice at that point was easy.”
Now you are playing next to Skriniar but who has impressed you the most so far?
“He is a very strong player and is a good person. For me it is always nice to be with players like that.”
Is it difficult to mark Lautaro in training?
“He is really good as well, always knows how to make the right movement. He is still young though but you can see that he has so much quality.”
