From Serie C1 to Russian tittle with Zenit, Spalletti has always managed to improve on his second year
The Corriere dello Sport highlights the history of Spalletti especially when it comes to his second year leading a club.
In 1994, Empoli opened the door for Spalletti to become the first team coach, he was their youth coach at the time, replacing the recently sacked Lombardi. And Lucio saved Empoli just by a hair: beating Alessandria in Serie C1 playoffs. And a year later, he was promoted to Serie B and then Serie A. In 2005, Spalletti inherited Roma and thanks to Calciopoli shock and results, the Giallorossi finished in second place. He then achieved the same result the following season but combined with the victory in Italian Cup and Italian Super Cup.
In 2010, Spalletti was the coach of Zenit and won the league immediately, same story happened the following year. He returned to Roma in 2016 replacing Garcia and brought it to third place. The following year, the Giallorossi finished second behind Juventus. In short, Spalletti does not take a step back.
