Inter want Duvan Zapata to either replace Icardi (very unlikely) or be the Argentinian's backup next season
As we are waiting news on the ongoing negotiation with Mauro Icardi, Inter, cautiously, have “locked up” Duvan Zapata ahead of next season.
Sport Mediaset explains that this surprise move by Inter has double meaning: to protect the club from a possible, albeit unlikely, collapse in relationship and negotiation with Icardi and his team, but also to have a backup to the captain next season. In the second case, Lautaro Martinez would have the opportunity to play on loan as starter for one year (perhaps with Atalanta) and then return to Inter.
Last weekend, Inter met with Fernando Villarreal, agent of Zapata. To the player, he likes the situation even as a backup to Mauro Icardi. The good relationship with Atalanta, in particular between Zhang and Percassi families, represents another piece for a successful negotiation. Zapata is currently at Atalanta on a two-year loan deal (12 million) with option to buy for another 12 million by 2020.
