Intense first 80 days for Giuseppe Marotta at Inter

Eighty days to make first impression. Eighty days of bitter eliminations, many issues and refereeing mistakes.

For Giuseppe Marotta, it was not the easiest start that he perhaps hoped for in his new adventure at Inter. But surely, his policy is clearly visible at this club as confirmed by the Corriere dello Sport.

“The first sign of his involvement was the suspension of Nainggolan for showing up late to training repeatedly and for being guilty of a series of wrong behaviors and attitudes. That decision was immediately made public to put the player in the forefront to respect their responsibilities but above all, it was to send a signal. Same policy was taken with Icardi who was late returning to work from holidays. The result was a fine and this will become one of many reasons for a breakup (perhaps this summer).

“Perisic’s intention to leave wasn’t exactly hidden either but in the end, he was forced to stay because Arsenal were unable to satisfy Inter’s demand. The path of Marotta is that extreme situations require extreme decisions such as removing Icardi’s armband who has come to a collision course with the dressing room for the statements made on TV by his wife and agent. Marotta and Wanda met with each other a few weeks ago and a promise was made to offer a new contract. The case of Icardi also has turned an old friend into an enemy and that is Juventus director Fabio Paratici. Marotta did not hold back and took the same path on Dybala whose future at Juventus appears to have doubts.

“But that doesn’t end there because just last Saturday, two points were stolen against Fiorentina for a non-existent penalty. The Inter CEO then pointed his finger at Nicchi and Rizzoli, inviting them to make sure certain situations will no longer occur, to utilize VAR better.”

It was intense 80 days for the former Juventus director.
