Julio Cesar: "I don't know what happened between Inter and Icardi but wearing the armband doesn't make you leader"
Speaking to Tencent Sport, former Inter goalkeeper, Julio Cesar, comments on the removal of Mauro Icardi’s captaincy.
“Personally, I never played with the captain’s armband but that position is always very special. Samir Handanovic now has the opportunity to be at the service of Inter as a captain. You must have control of situation. He is very strong and an important element for this team. Icardi? I do not know what exactly happened in the dressing room. When this change happened, I only heard things from the outside but I did not understand the true situation. Icardi is a symbol for this club, very important for Inter. I cannot say he is the most important, team is a collective after all, but Maurito is undoubtedly the player that all European clubs are interested in. Wearing the captain’s armband does not make you a leader: as a leader, you have to take the initiative, manage the attitude on the pitch and relationship with the team. A team must have several leaders but there must be only one representative and it was the right decision to hand the armband to Handanovic.”
