Ivan Cordoba: "I rejected Real Madrid twice to make history with Inter"

Ivan Cordoba, interviewed by Soy Calcio, looks back to his Inter career and reveals that he was close to join Real Madrid, not once but twice.

“I was playing in San Lorenzo but I had known about Inter interest for six-eight months prior to that. My agent told me that Inter emissaries were on their way to see me play and I was flattered because Inter were a team full of great players. I spoke with them twice, it was nice because I scored in both of the games that they came to see me. Although it was not my strength but I think it helped Inter to decide to bring me to Italy. Once we were closing the deal, I only had Italy in my head. But then Ruggeri told me that Real Madrid had also made an offer for me. I answered him that ‘Real Madrid are a fine club but I only want Inter.’ I was only watching Italian football then because of Faustino Asprilla and so I didn’t think twice about accepting Inter’s offer. Real offered €3M more and better wages but I had decided to go to the Nerazzurri.”

Then Cordoba reveals that he was close to join Real Madrid again on another occasion.

“Esteban Cambiasso arrived and he told me that Florentino Perez wanted to talk to me. He and Bronzetti were willing to bring me to Real. But then I told them that I had just renewed with Moratti and I no longer had an agent, I had promised Inter that if I found an agreement, I would not go away because I wanted to win and make history with this club. Then I saw Perez during an Inter Forever match in Madrid, he was very nice. I arrived at Inter to make history with this team.”
