Too many issues preventing Dzeko's transfer to Inter
At the moment, selling Dzeko to Inter remains probable because his desire has been clearly expressed. But there are issues: there is a lot of waiting because Petrachi does not have a replacement. In addition, Roma have not received a satisfactory offer from Marotta because Inter have never come close to the requested €20M.
Furthermore, Dzeko has been the best player in almost all summer friendlies. And so selling an important player like him would represent a technical downgrade that must be replaced in the last few days of the window. And selling without a fair offer, it would also be a sign of weakness towards Inter in a similar way that Tottenham did not sell Alderweireld to Roma despite contract expiring in 2020.
If indeed Dzeko is staying at Roma, which is a credible hypothesis, it would be a philosophical turning point for the American management. From 2011 onwards, the club has always let those who wanted to leave leave. Both with Sabatini and Monchi as directors. And even in many cases, enticed by capital gains that were needed to balance accounts, it was Roma that convinced the players to willingly accept a sale that was not in their plans (see Nainggolan and Strootman just a year ago).
