Marotta: "Icardi? The club knows what happened, I'm optimistic that we can conclude this. Conte? We gave up on a top player to sign him"
Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta is a guest today at the Sheraton Hotel in Milan, the home of the final few days of the Italian transfer market, and he speaks about it, including Conte and Icardi, to the president of ADISE.
“For me this is my 43rd transfer market window, so many things have changed. Once upon a time, the market was all about Italians, closing out on foreigners. Once upon a time, there were far fewer elements in a club. I grew up in Varese and started as a director at the age of 23.”
Icardi - “We have made our decisions with responsibility. We are aware of the facts that happened, we are not harming ourselves. And so the club has been firm with its position. There are still difficulties but we are optimistic and I hope that we can conclude everything the best way possible.”
Conte - “I often still wonder how big of a role that a coach can have. Conte is a great coach and has a mix of important qualities. We were happy to give up on a top player to invest in him. It is Conte the top player of Inter. Staying at Inter for 8 years like at Samp and Juve? I don’t know, I would also like to enjoy life.”
Marotta also confirms that the incoming market is closed.
