Mauro Icardi will not be on Champions League squad. If player is still here after September 2nd, he is expected to be included on Serie A list
Inter are out of UEFA settlement agreement and so their squad list for European competitions will be normalized. But just like anyone else, Inter will have to include four from club own youth system, four that were trained by clubs from same league and 17 free spots.
“One year ago, the decision to keep out Dalbert, Gagliardini and Joao Mario was dictated by economic because Inter were under settlement agreement and the sanctions were limited squad list of only 21 players. Conte now will have more freedom and the exclusions will be mainly based on a technical nature of the players.
“Without counting young players like Agoume, Esposito, Longo and Puscas (the last two are leaving the club), Inter have 25 players on the team. In the offensive department there are Lautaro, Politano, Perisic and of course Icardi but they are adding two more enforcements and so the total will be 27. Considering that Dimarco is a homegrown player, it goes down to 26 and so five exclusions are needed.
“One is Icardi as the Argentinian is out of project and Inter have reiterated several times that he will not play. Certainly, he will not be included in the Champions League squad. However, he is staying after September 2nd (deadline day in Italy), Icardi will be on the 25-player list for Serie A. There will be space for him and Inter don’t want to risk putting themselves in an awkward position in the event of a legal dispute with the player.”
