The next big signing for Inter is Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Here's the plan of Marotta...
Inter are thinking about Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Having signed Romelu Lukaku and Edin Dzeko (almost), Giuseppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio will concentrate on the Lazio midfielder and the plan includes two sales and then the final strike to sign the Serbian national.
Obviously it is not going to be easy because between Inter and Milinkovic-Savic there are Joao Mario and especially Mauro Icardi. And because there are the demand and timing of Claudio Lotito who needs to be satisfied but at least this is the idea that Inter have in mind.
The premise is this: as long as Dybala remains on the market, it will be a good idea not to discard the possibility of an exchange with Icardi even if in the meantime Inter should have already closed for the arrival of Dzeko. But there is another way and that is Juventus to sign Icardi by spending only cash. How much? Inter do not want to fall below €75M.
So a cash-only farewell would pave the way for Inter to at least try for Milinkovic. And it’s basically what the Nerazzurri are hoping for because the Serbian has been a target of Marotta for a long time. In truth, same with Paratici as well.
After listening to Juventus at the start of the summer and then Manchester United in a much more concrete manner, he was close to leave but then nothing happened. But the fact remains that Milinkovic can still go away from Lazio. With United, negotiation was based around €75M plus bonuses for €90M in total.
Lotito would not oppose to selling him, he would not raise the impassable wall like he did last summer when his demand was €150M. The bases for negotiation have been established and with Icardi’s sale, Inter can definitive enter.
However, Lazio also have a technical need, namely to find a replacement on the same level as Milinkovic. This is why Lotito and director Tare will not let him leave at the very end.
