Luigi Di Biagio: "Barella and Sensi are the present and future of Italy. Thank you Marotta and Conte for focusing on young Italians"
Luigi Di Biagio was the coach that followed the growing process of Stefano Sensi and Nicolo Barella very closely in the U-21 Italian national team. Speaking to the Gazzetta dello Sport, he reveals that he had no doubt that these two individuals would make it at top level.
“Two very good lads and I’m happy to see them at this level, but I had not doubt. Barella was a leader in all of the national teams, from U-15 to U-21. He is an intelligent kid, very serious with a great work culture. Many of our players did very well until U-21 team and then suffered making the jump into the senior team: well, it did not happen to Barella but instead, he has taken this huge step naturally and continues to play at a high level. For Sensi, he just needed more time. Maybe it was because his physical stature.”
And now Mancini and Conte can enjoy them.
“They can still improve by following these great coaches. Together they play well and are complementary. They are the present and future of the national team and can be decisive in a big club like Inter. I am happy to see that Conte and Marotta decided to focus strongly on young Italians.”
