Associated Press corrected its story accusing Steven Zhang of defending fans chanting racist abuse

After being selected to the European Club Association board, the Associated Press released a story which claimed that Steven Zhang defended the fans who racially abused Romelu Lukaku in Cagliari-Inter.

After a couple of days, the official correction has arrived:

“Zhang says the principle of non-discrimination is ‘embedded in the DNA’ of the club and that its inclusive history makes him believe that the fans who wrote the letter did not intend to cause offense, adding ‘a lot of fans, when they did it, the intention was not bad.’ Zhang says football is ‘not for violence, it’s not for racism’ and can be a force to educate people around the world.”
