Champions League matchday 1: Inter vs. Slavia Prague probable lineups - It's already a must-win
There is nothing like the Champions League. This is the competition that Inter have worked so hard for in the past two years to qualify on the final matchday of the season. This is the competition that Suning and club management have decided to make it the norm in the players’ contracts, removing any bonuses linked to Champions League participation.
For second straight season, Inter are back in this top-tiered European competition and will debut on Tuesday against Czech side Slavia Prague. And I don’t know about you but in a group with Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund, this is a fantastic opportunity for Antonio Conte and his players to get off to a great start with all three points. Because if there’s no victory tomorrow, the chances of Inter moving on to the knock-out stage, which is the club’s goal this season, would take a nosedive.
According to both the Corriere dello Sport and the Gazzetta dello Sport, there will be a couple of changes in the starting lineup for the game. In the defense, Danilo D’Ambrosio will return to the starting lineup after taking a weekend off against Udinese. Next to him will be the usual Stefan De Vrij and Milan Skriniar protecting captain Samir Handanovic. In the midfield, Matias Vecino is expected to return on the right side of Marcelo Brozovic and the three-man mid will be completed with the man of the moment Stefano Sensi.
The biggest surprise is the expected debut of Valentino Lazaro. The Austrian arrived from Hertha Berlin for €21M and he has not made official Inter debut due to injuries and consequently being late in terms of preparation. On the left side will still be Kwadwo Asamoah. Lautaro Martinez will return to play from first minute with Romelu Lukaku.
